Hexaphonic pickups
One pickup per string, six separate signals. Each string can go to its own effect, its own synth voice or straight into the learning app, so it knows exactly which note you played and on which string.
Lumawen builds hexaphonic pickups, custom guitars and an AI-assisted way to learn guitar and music theory. The hardware is open source, so anyone can build it, fix it and make it better.
Our mission
We believe a guitar should tell you exactly what you played, and that learning music should feel like having a patient teacher beside you, not a wall of theory.
So we're building the instrument, the pickup and the teacher together, and publishing the hardware for anyone to use.
What we're building
One pickup per string, six separate signals. Each string can go to its own effect, its own synth voice or straight into the learning app, so it knows exactly which note you played and on which string.
Instruments designed around the hexaphonic pickup from the start, with clean routing, serviceable electronics and builds tuned to the player who'll own them.
Learn guitar and music theory with a coach that listens. It hears what you play, explains why a chord works, spots the habit that's slowing you down and builds the next lesson around you.
Diagrams, schematics, parts lists and step-by-step build instructions, published on GitHub. Build your own pickup, adapt it to your guitar, and send back what you learn.
Plans for the future
A rough order, not a promise of dates. Follow along on GitHub as each step lands.
Open source
Everything we design for the pickups and guitars, from wiring diagrams to step-by-step instructions, goes on GitHub. Read it, build it, change it, and open an issue or a pull request when you find a better way.
